With the theme parks closed will Disneyland and Disney California Adventure open a food festival for guests?

Could Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood host food festivals for die-hard theme park foodies? With strict new guidelines, it still appears that this is a possibility. But what do the theme parks have to say about it?

Under the new California guidelines, it appears that Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, LEGOLAND, and more cannot operate as normal until the county reaches the Yellow Tier—which is the most difficult tier to achieve. In a video conference today, several presidents from California theme parks met to discuss the restrictions. All of them expressed interest in reopening under the Orange tier along with sports venues.

When asked, Universal Studios said that its considering reopening with expanded food options. Disneyland didn’t directly answer the question, but did show concern over keeping employees out of work. For both theme parks their top priority was to bring employees back in a safe way. While a food festival may add some revenue, it wouldn’t require the majority of employees to return to work.

UPDATE: Disneyland to open part of Disney California Adventure for holiday shopping and dining!

Disneyland typically rolls out three food and drink festivals throughout the year. The Lunar New Year kiosks celebrate with Asian cuisine and Disney California Adventure’s Food & Wine Festival takes place in the spring. The popular Holiday Marketplace Kiosks return in November to bring back seasonal favorites.

All of these festivals take place at Disney California Adventure and offer a wide variety of snacks, drinks, and more. However, their significance helps add food options and bring in attendance for those visiting the Disneyland Resort. With the attractions closed, a Food & Wine Festival may not be enough.

However, the Food & Wine Festival 2020 which kicked off at the end of February was cut short. Several visitors still have unused “sip and savor” passes to be redeemed for snack items. Only time will tell how Disneyland will fulfill those previously purchased food tickets with the parks closed.

Knott’s Berry Farm recently rolled out a similar festival for locals. After selling out the majority of dates, many wondered if Disneyland would do the same. Fans are eager to get back to the parks, even if it’s open without the rides. Theme parks also note that they expect the vast majority of their guests to be from local visitors.
