Frozen Live at the Hyperion and Mickey and the Magical Map are now permanently closed at the Disney California Adventure and Disneyland.

Disney confirmed this week that two of its largest daytime shows would close for good. Frozen Live at the Hyperion in Disney California Adventure and Mickey and the Magical Map in Disneyland will not reopen with the parks. While we expected some of these shows to take extended hiatuses until crowds returned, this comes as a bit of a surprise.

For some time, we’ve heard Imagineers wanting to change Hollywood Land in DCA and Fantasyland in Disneyland. The two spaces could easily host a new attraction or two. Possibly, an extension of the upcoming Avengers Campus or as addition to Fantasyland. However, Disney has not confirmed these rumors.

Frozen took residency at the Hyperion Theatre in Disney California Adventure just a few years ago. The show opened for guests in 2016 after replacing the popular Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular. Younger guests under the age of 10 especially enjoyed Frozen.

The Fantasyland Theatre, which was home to Mickey and the Magical Map, debuted in 1956. Its current image was reimagined as part of New Fantasyland at Disneyland in the 1980s. Mickey and the Magical Map ran from May 25, 2013 until the parks closed in March 2020. The show featured popular Disney characters, lively dancers, and giant transforming set pieces.

Disney will lay off approximately 200 Cast Members due to these closures. We’re never happy to report this and we are incredibly thankful to their hard work and dedication over the years. At this time, it is uncertain when large stage shows can host audiences again.
