The Mandalorian season 3 is officially coming out but when should fans expect to see the next chapters on Disney+?
Star Wars The Mandalorian is one of the most-watched streaming shows around. The sci-fi epic follows a Mandalorian bounty hunter and his adorable sidekick Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) as they venture through the galaxy. Set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the second season recently concluded with some jaw-dropping reveals. If you haven’t watched all of The Mandalorian yet, go back and do that before reading.
So when should fans expect the next season of The Mandalorian? All signs point to The Mandalorian season 3 releasing in early 2022. Though some media outlets have posted December 2021, recently interviews with showrunner Jon Favreau have explained otherwise.
The misconception about The Mandalorian returning in December 2021, comes from a statement made by Star Wars lead Kathleen Kennedy. She stated in a Disney investor event that “the next chapter” of The Mandalorian would debut in December 2021. However, the end credits of season 2 explain that The Book of Boba Fett, a new series taking place at the same time as The Mandalorian, would release in December 2021. Favreau clarified Kennedy’s statement by saying she was referring to The Book of Boba Fett as the next chapter. Furthermore, Favreau explained that production of Boba Fett has begun and that The Mandalorian season 3 would go into production right after. Disney+ wants to release both shows back to back.
While a 2022 release may seem like bad news for fans, we believe its even better news. Having The Book of Boba Fett release right before The Mandalorian will make both shows seem like a much longer season. Since Disney+ shows have been criticized for their short, typically 8-episode seasons, the back-to-back shows will finally grants fans’ wishes.

Keep in mind that Disney has not given an official release date for The Mandalorian season 3 or an extact date for The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian gained heaps of critical acclaim including 15 Emmy nominations with 7 wins!
