Projects That Disney World Most Likely Scrapped

Several previously announced Walt Disney World projects have likely been scrapped due to low crowds at the Resort in 2020.

Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge already broke ground in the former River Country water park area near Fort Wilderness. The new Disney Vacation Club Resort was announced last year at Disney’s expo, D23. However, this month, Disney removed content for Reflections on its website. Construction also stopped this spring and likely won’t continue unless tourism spikes in the next year.

We’re also bummed that Reflections is likely cancelled because the Resort would house Tiana’s Place, a bayou-style restaurant with elements from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. However, we’re still holding out that Disney will move this dining experience to the Magic Kingdom when the Princess and the Frog ride debuts in the coming years.

Also announced at D23 in 2019 was a Mary Poppins attraction at EPCOT. Though we knew very little about this project, Disney implied that guests would enter Cherry Tree Lane with elements from the films. However, Disney has since abandoned these plans for the UK Pavilion in EPCOT World Showcase.

Finally, we expect that Disney scrapped the EPCOT Festival Center . The futuristic pavilion, set to house live entertainment and fantastic views of the EPCOT fireworks, likely won’t see the light of day. Though Disney hasn’t fully released a statement about this cancellation, budget priority reallocated to EPCOT attractions already in motion. The pavilion looked beautiful, so we hope that Disney puts another stunning attraction in its place, even if it’s not as grand.
