Disneyland and Walt Disney World will re-theme their popular Splash Mountain rides to Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.

The log flume ride with a 10-story drop will soon plummet to a new tune. The lively 2009 animated film, The Princess and the Frog, will takeover the themes of Splash Mountain. According to Disney, Imagineers have worked on this concept since last year.

For Disneyland, the ride will fit right in its current spot. Though Splash Mountain is part of Critter Country, it could easily tie in both New Orleans Square next door and the fun animal creatures within its current land. However, we believe that The Princess and the Frog will end up being part of New Orleans Square. In Walt Disney World, it can continue as part of Frontierland.

Disney stated, “Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important. It’s a great story with a strong lead character, set against the backdrop of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou.”

Splash Mountain has a problematic past. Though the origins of iconic “Br’er” characters come from Black American folklore, their retelling wasn’t. The depictions of characters like Uncle Remus in Disney’s Song of the South portray Black Americans in a damaging and ignorant light. Even the tune “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah” comes from a minstrel song performed by actors in blackface.

But we don’t want to make this post about Splash Mountain and its terrible past. Instead, we want to focus on the magic that is Tiana, arguably the best written Disney Princess to date. Tiana is ambitious, hard working, kind, and still troubled. Tiana is real and that’s why this ride will be incredible.

If you are excited to see Tiana and her friends in Splash Mountain, share this post with your friends! At this time, there is no close date for Splash Mountain for the change over.
