It’s a small glimmer of hope as parts of Shanghai Disneyland reopen to the public this week. News channels in China show guests visiting restaurants in Disneytown, the resort’s version of Downtown Disney. The resort started closures in January.
However, Disneytown is the only part of Shanghai Disneyland that has reopened.
New measures are taking place to ensure that the virus doesn’t spread in the resort. On Shanghai Disneyland’s website, a disclaimer states, “all guests, Cast Members and Disneytown tenant employees, including strict and comprehensive approaches on sanitization, disinfection and cleanliness.” Masks, thermal scanners, and other measures are taken to ensure that visiting guests aren’t already sick.
Shanghai Disneyland is one of the most magical places we’ve ever visited. There are new rides, a reimagined Tomorrowland, and beautiful gardens throughout. The TRON Lightcycle Run first launched with Shanghai and is soon coming to the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World – and we can’t wait!
Disney’s US theme parks aren’t rescheduled to open until the end of the month. However, we expect that date to be pushed back until mid-April, and then possibly again. But these are just speculations.
For those of us still locked into our houses, this news provides a glimmer of hope. As China reports a slow in new cases for COVID-19, the coronavirus, hopefully we’re seeing a light at the end of the tunnel – even if that light seems distant.
