The holiday magic returns to the Walt Disney World Resort for 2020! However, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is cancelled.

The Walt Disney World Resort has finally announced its 2020 holiday events! However, this year, things will look a little different. As it appears, Mickey’s Christmas Party and some other fan favorites will not return.

From November 6 – December 30, the holidays will take place at all four Walt Disney World theme parks. Festive cavalcades will be ongoing at the parks, including the boat flotilla parades at Animal Kingdom. Expect to see Christmas characters, too, including Gingerbread Men, Toy Soldiers, Reindeer, and Santa Claus! Disney will still implement its social distancing and other health measures during the events.

One of the biggest changes is that the lights around Cinderella Castle won’t return this year. Instead, Disney is planning projection mapping to make the castle look more seasonal. While we’ll miss the lights, the new displays look like a lot of fun! Furthermore, a light-up castle means that the theme parks will be open at night again!

Because crowding must be limited, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom and the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT have been cancelled for 2020. However, there is plenty of other magic to enjoy from food to decor at the parks. Holiday dining at EPCOT will return on November 27.

Travel is expected to spike during the holidays in 2020. With COVID-19 cases continuing worldwide, most families stayed home for the summer. However, with the holidays around the corner, guests are planning their trips. We’ve already seen crowd sizes increase for Labor Day, so we expect dates for the holidays to be no different. Nonetheless, Disney is still keeping capacity low and requiring park reservations for all guests.
