Is the Jurassic Park River Adventure ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure changing over to a Jurassic World theme?
When Jurassic World the Ride opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, fans wondered if Orlando’s version would get a reimagining. Both Jurassic rides use the same log flume-style system that transports guests into a dino-filled adventure. Naturally, things go “very wrong” in both attractions but they have different dinos and special effects to enjoy.
So, will Universal Orlando fans get to see this popular ride transformed? As of now, Universal doesn’t have plans to make Jurassic Park into an updated version. According to insiders, the entire Jurassic Park Island in Islands of Adventure will have theming for both Jurassic Park and Jurassic World.
One problematic piece of theming is Raptor Enclosure within the River Adventure. Just across the way, a second, much larger version is under construction for the Jurassic World Velocicoaster. While the new roller coaster uses tracks the design from the Jurassic World film, it still seems like a clash of theming.
However, it’s entirely possible that Universal doesn’t want to make its tree-filled Jurassic Park Island an “immersive” experience. For example, the Harry Potter lands, Hogsmeade Village and Diagon Alley, both are supposed to feel like you’ve stepped into the Wizarding World. Whereas the Simpsons land is more of a hodgepodge of ideas from the series. Jurassic Park Island appears to be more the latter.

With all of that said, Universal may change its mind and reimagine Jurassic Park into Jurassic World. Due to low attendance in 2020, and likely 2021, future guests may desire a newer attraction at the resort in the following years. Reimagining a ride is much faster and cheaper than building something brand new. So, if Universal needs a less-expensive crowd pleaser, we may see Jurassic World take over the entire island.
