When Will Walt Disney World Parades Return?

When will Walt Disney World Resort parades including the Festival of Fantasy return as theme park attractions?

The Walt Disney World Resort theme parks may be open, but not all of its experiences have returned. One that guests miss most are the parades. The most popular daytime parade, Disney’s Festival of Fantasy, closed in March 2020 and has yet to reopen. The Christmas and Halloween parades were also postponed.

So when will Disney plan on bringing back its parades? Technically, it can already host parades at its theme parks. However, Disney follows the strict guidelines of its medical professionals and the advice of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. Until further notice, Disney is waiting on the recommendations by the CDC.

Projections estimate that the CDC may not let up on its guidelines until summer 2021. That is if the United States can somehow slow the spread of the pandemic by then. Current CDC guidelines say that theme parks should hold no more than 25% of their capacity. And that crowding of any kind should be limited to help stop spread. Since parades invite crowding, Disney opted to discontinue these.

Instead of parades, guests can view character cavalcades that use floats and cars to move down the streets. However, these are somewhat swift moving so that guests don’t have a chance to crowd before the float leaves. Nonetheless, we love the cavalcades that exist at all four theme parks in Disney World.

Only time will tell when parades can reopen, but we don’t expect them until the later half of 2021. Hopefully, we’ll see parades back when Walt Disney World celebrates its 50th Anniversary in October 2021.
