Walt Disney World and Disneyland will soon change out Splash Mountain for a new concept but when will the attraction officially close?
Last month, Disney revealed big plans to change one of its most iconic attractions. Splash Mountain, the signature water ride at Disney theme park resorts, will soon be based on The Princess and the Frog. With new characters, new show scenes, and new music, the exciting transformation will be epic new storytelling to the parks.
However, when Walt Disney World reopened the Magic Kingdom in July, the ride was still operating. So when can we expect Disney to close Splash Mountain for good?
At this time, there is no official close date for the ride. However, insiders speculation that the attraction revamp will open in either 2024 or 2025. Since most attractions take about 2-3 years to construct, we guess that Splash will close sometime in 2021 or early 2022. More than likely, the ride will complete its seasonal operation for summer and holiday 2021 and then close for good in January 2022.

Of course, these aren’t official dates. We could see Splash go down as early as January 2021 if Disney wants to get a head start on the ride. From what Disney has revealed, the log flume-style attraction will not change vehicles or track. Instead, new show scenes will be placed around the thrills. Meaning that there are several animatronic characters and set pieces to construct in preparation.
