Find out when the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster will likely open at EPCOT in the Walt Disney World Resort.
If you’ve been to EPCOT over the past couple of years, you likely noticed the new giant blue box. This enormous building is big enough to hold a few Spaceship Earth spheres and still have room! But what’s inside is even more insane: a new type of fast-moving, spinning, Marvel-themed space coaster!
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an attraction like no other! With vast show scenes, individually twisting coaster cars, and an epic launch sequence, this ride is sure to blow minds. But when will this new roller coaster arrive at EPCOT?
While Disney hasn’t made an official announcement yet, we expect that Guardians of the Galaxy will launch in Summer 2022. Though Disney could have possibly completed this project sooner, the COVID-19 pandemic slowed things down. Now construction and production delays will have this ride opening a bit later.
However, 2022 isn’t so bad for EPCOT. The year will make the 40th anniversary of the iconic theme park. As Walt Disney World deals with low crowds and limited capacity now, a couple years down the road may look a lot more promising for excited travelers.
The ride also must wait for production of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 to start filming. Director James Gunn and the cast are set to help create sequences for the attraction. Until normal filming can commence, there may be some further delays.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Comic Rewind is the second attraction based around the Marvel franchise. The first ride, Guardians of the Galaxy—Mission: BREAKOUT! is located at Disney California Adventure in the Disneyland Resort. For now, the attraction will likely be the only Marvel-themed ride in Walt Disney World. According to insiders, the rights to most Marvel franchises are owned by Universal. However, Guardians seemed to be part of a loophole as the current iteration wasn’t part of that agreement.
