When will Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter hotels reopen at the Walt Disney World Resort?

UPDATE: Port Orleans has a reopening date! Click here for more!

Disney’s largest hotel resort, Port Orleans, has yet to reopen since it closed in March 2020. The 3000-room hotel has cancelled all guest reservations, and many visitors wonder when Port Orleans will return.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort is split into two hotels: Riverside and French Quarter. Both offer Louisiana feels near a bayou-like river and fanciful New Orleans-style buildings. Guests can also snack on famous Disney beignets here. We love visiting Port Orleans after a shopping day in Disney Springs (you can hop on a boat over to Scat Cat’s Club for Mickey-shaped beignets).

At the moment, guests cannot reserve a room at either French Quarter or Riverside. So, when will Disney reopen Port Orleans again? For now, there is no official date. With theme park capacity low, several of the resort hotels remained closed.

This extended closure is Port Orleans longest ever. After opening in the early 1990s, Port Orleans only closed half of its rooms due to low tourism in the early 2000s. This time, the entire resort is closed and at least one of its famous attractions has closed forever. Yehaa Bob Jackson was recently laid off from his gig at Port Orleans. He’d performed zany piano routines at Walt Disney World for 23 years.

With that said, we expect that Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter may open sometime in 2021. Disney will rely on guest demand increasing and CDC guidelines to expand their theme park capacity. At the moment, Disney is only allowing 25% capacity based on CDC guidelines.

Once the CDC has recommendations for publicly gathering increase, and guest demand returns, we expect that Disney will open Port Orleans. This reopening date could be as soon as early 2021 and as late as 2022. If you’re looking for a moderate hotel, we recommend Disney’s Caribbean Beach with access to the Disney Skyliner.
