Find out when the upcoming Velocicoaster roller coaster is opening in Jurassic Park at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
The massive black coaster winds through much of Jurassic Park Island. It looks thrilling as ever, but when will the new ride debut? According to insiders, it appears that Universal is aiming at a Summer 2021 opening date. Over the years, Universal likes to open their rides around these times to give visiting families something to look forward to. At this time, an official date hasn’t been confirmed.
UPDATE (9-25-20): Universal Orlando confirmed that the ride will be named VelociCoaster and will open Summer 2021.
A recent patent revealed the name “Velocicoaster” for the project. However, this could be a working title. Nonetheless, we can see the track winding by the Jurassic Park Visitors Center and over the central lagoon. There are also several show buildings which will likely house scenes with attacking dinosaurs.
Oddly enough, Universal Orlando hasn’t announced this roller coaster. Yet, the track is place in the center of the park, easily visible from the entrance. While it’s impossible to keep a huge project like this entirely under wraps, Universal remains tight-lipped. The theme park did the same during the construction of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

We’re also not certain if the ride will be based on Jurassic Park or Jurassic World. For the time being, it appears that Universal isn’t planning to rebrand the island to the new film series. Instead, we’ll see all films represented here (though mostly focused on Jurassic Park and Jurassic World).
