The Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance virtual queue (boarding group) times have been updated again at Walt Disney World for travel in 2021.
Guests wishing to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance have two shots to enter the virtual queue for the ride. Starting at 7am, guests with may enter the virtual queue using the Walt Disney World app. Additionally, a second time slot will become available at 1pm (previously 2pm) beginning December 20, 2020.
This update comes weeks after the announcement that park hopping will return to Walt Disney World. Under new park hopping rules, guests may switch parks beginning at 2pm, depending on availability. However, guests must be inside the park for the later opportunity. Park hopping begins January 1, 2021, and only requires a Disney Parks Pass for the first park.
We suspect that changes to the Rise of the Resistance boarding groups are due to park hopping. Since guests can technically enter Hollywood Studios at 2pm, Disney may not want any of the second wave to take up a boarding group slot. Additionally, it may cut traffic that might otherwise occur around 2pm. Often, guests who do not grab a boarding group will leave for the day.
