The VOID virtual reality experience has closed in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort and Disney Springs in Walt Disney World. The news comes after signs were removed from the storefronts. The attractions have been shut since mid-March when the theme park resorts closed.
The VOID VR attraction opened at Disney parks in 2018. The first walkthrough, Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, pitted guests against stormtroopers and other threats. We were blown away by the special effects that included virtual and augmented reality. At times, we were racing through space ships before ending up on a lava-filled planet. We even felt the heat!
Later came a Wreck It Ralph VR, followed by the stunning Avengers: Damage Control. All of these experiences pulled guests into the movies with life-like special effects. Just as we thought that The VOID and Disney would do something even more amazing, the plug was pulled.
Like many other entertainment companies, the Covid pandemic shut down The VOID. Their locations all over the country closed for months. However, once Downtown Disney and Disney Springs reopened, the attractions didn’t return. Since guests must wear extensive VR equipment, we wondered if anyone would feel safe going back to the VOID for a while.
Today, it seems we won’t find out. This month, the signs were removed from The VOID buildings at both Disney resorts. Now Downtown Disney and Disney Springs are without their virtual reality attractions. Only time will tell if Disney ends up with a similar attraction in the future. For us, we loved these immersive experiences and still crave more.
