The Walt Disney World Resort will not host a 2020 New Year’s Eve event at any of its theme parks as it continues a phased reopening.

Guests hoping to catch the Magic Kingdom fireworks at midnight on January 1st, will have to wait another year. Disney announced that it will not be hosting a 2020 New Years Eve event to bring in the new year of 2021.

In the past, guests could stay at the Magic Kingdom and often other parks until after midnight. A special fireworks display above Cinderella Castle was the iconic moments of the evening. Restaurants, such as California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary would also host rooftops extravaganzas.

Disney theme park hours for December 31, 2020:

  • Magic Kingdom: 8:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • Epcot: 10:00 am – 10:00 pm
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 9:00 am – 9:00 pm
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park: 7:00 am – 8:00 pm
  • Disney Springs: 10:00 am – 11:00 pm

Disney-owned hotels also offer festive activities, including a NYE party baskets available for purchase. Guests will be informed of these activities once they’ve checked into their room. Holiday and seasonal offerings will continue into the first week of January.

New Years Eve at the Walt Disney World Resort typically comes with mixed reviews. Our experience being at a Disney theme park at the stroke of midnight was like being packed in Times Square. Parks are often overly crowded and everyone wants to stand as close to the castle as possible. So this year guests hoped that reduced crowds might mean a better fireworks experience, which won’t be the case.

The Walt Disney World Resort continues its phased opening as new restaurants and attractions gradually become available each month. To stay up to date with Disney’s reopening, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter! You can also follow us on Instagram and Twitter.
