Though a select number of Universal Orlando Resort hotels reopened earlier this summer, the remainder will remain closed in 2020.

It’s no secret that tourism is down in Orlando, Florida. The COVID-19 pandemic has most families staying locally this year and cancelling their 2020 travel plans. Because of this low demand, many hotels in the Universal Orlando Resort won’t reopen this year.

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, and Universal’s Aventura Hotel won’t reopen until 2021. Meanwhile, the Hard Rock Hotel, Lowes Royal Pacific, Universal’s Cabana Bay, and Universal’s Surfside Inn & Suites are booking guests.

Furthermore, Universal’s Endless Summer Resort: Dockside Inn and Suites missed its Spring 2020 debut. The low-budget, spacious Resort was expected to be very popular with visiting guests this year. With suites starting around $89/night, Dockside was the perfect new hotel to visit. However, we don’t expect the hotel to reopen until demand is met, possibly in Spring 2021.

The good news is that the open hotels score very highly with guests. Hard Rock Hotel is a quick walk to the theme parks and Royal Pacific offers ferry rides. Guests can walk or shuttle from Cabana Bay, the lowest priced hotel on the Resort. Additionally, many of these properties have been very busy on the weekends as local families look for a summer escape.
