Many Disney World Fans Upset Over Mask Policies

Walt Disney World fans posted some upset comments about the company’s required mask policies for the reopening of Disney Springs.

When the Walt Disney World Resort announced the reopening of Disney Springs last week, several guidelines were listed for guest and Cast Member safety. Along with temperature checks and social distancing was also a mandatory mask policy. For many fans, this was not acceptable.

The complaints ranged from personal choice to unbearable Florida heat. One guest commented, “Will not be there unfortunately due to I would rather not pass out because of heat exhaustion & lack of oxygen due to wearing a mask in central Florida heat.” Another posted, “This is absolutely insane. We won’t even consider visiting Springs or any of the parks as long as masks and temperature checks are a requirement. You might as well stay closed.”

Another would-be traveler believed that Walt Disney wouldn’t have wanted such a policy. “You have made our decision For us. We will be there once you return to normal procedures. You punish the healthy by your requirements. [sic] we’re almost at that point anyway by the decisions of Disney going outside of what Walt wanted for his Parks.”

The comments went on like this with families threatening to cancel upcoming trips and demand refunds for annual passes. There were dozens of comments, many that supported Disney’s decision. An excited guest wrote, “We are so happy to hear this! Thank you Disney company. And thank you for being concerned about health and safety! I am certain that you will handle things beautifully.”

Nevertheless, it’s clear that many guests are very uncomfortable with the idea. With that said, it’s important to know that Disney allows guests to remove masks when dining. Furthermore, these measures are temporary until another solution is found.

Disney Springs begins a phased reopening on May 20th. Many of the Disney-owned stores won’t open until the following week. To get updates on Walt Disney World’s reopening, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter! You can also follow us on Instagram and Twitter.
