The Jungle Cruise attraction will receive a very cool update with added scenes at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom!

This year, Disney will update a big scene in the Jungle Cruise, and get rid of some controversial elements. The famous “rhino scene” will soon introduce new characters and storyline. As the updated story goes, explorers find themselves shipwrecked and at the wrong end of an angry rhino! Chimpanzees also take over their wreckage as the explorers hurry up a nearby tree.

Today, the scene shows a very similar interaction with the rhino. However, there are many controversial depictions of natives and a promotion of colonialism. As guests are now more informed about different cultures, guests have petitioned for Disney to update these over the years.

The new scene update follows Splash Mountain’s announcement for a re-theme. Also expect to see several other updates to attractions around Disney parks that replace inaccurate and/or racist depictions of people. It’s also very likely that popular characters like Jungle Cruise’s Trader Sam “head salesman” will be changed or removed. There’s no word if this will affect the Trader Sam’s bar locations at the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Polynesian in Walt Disney World.
