The Universal Orlando theme parks are indefinitely closing several attractions including Fast & Furious: Supercharged starting August 9.
The Universal Orlando theme parks may have opened, but the resort is still undergoing its phased reopening. As guest demand levels out for the summer and tourism is lower than ever, Universal is making major changes. Several rides, including the newer Fast & Furious: Supercharged ride will close on August 9.
Universal Orlando Attraction Closures
- A Day in the Park with Barney (Universal Studios Florida)
- Fast & Furious: Supercharged (Universal Studios Florida)
- Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl (Universal Studios Florida)
- Fear Factor Live (Universal Studios Florida)
- Poseidon’s Fury (Universal’s Islands of Adventure)
- Storm Force Accelatron (Universal’s Islands of Adventure)
Most of these closing attractions are shows or spinner rides. Some, like Fear Factor, come at no surprise. However, Fast & Furious closing feels a bit strange. The attraction only just opened in 2018 at Universal Studios Florida. Though the ride is one of the lowest rated in our guidebooks, we’ve expected Universal to amp it up in some way.
At this time, there is no reopening date set for any of these attractions. However, should holiday travel increase, we expect to see some return.

Universal Team Members working those attractions will relocate to other rides. However, after a reported 94% revenue loss in the last quarter, Universal is downsizing. Twice since June the theme park resort laid off several employees. Furthermore, not all of the resort hotels, including Loews Portofino Bay have opened yet.
