Disney’s Grand Californian at the Disneyland resort announced an opening date for its Disney Vacation Club villas.
Just when all hope seemed lost for hotels reopening at the Disneyland Resort this year, the Disney Vacation Club released good news. Disney’s Grand Californian Resort Hotel will open the villas portion of the resort for its members. Guests can book using their Disney Vacation Club points for stays beginning Dec 6th, 2020.
We see this as a phased reopening for the hotel until it can finally reopen the theme parks. Originally, Disney’s Grand Californian announced a July 2020 opening. However, state theme park guidelines weren’t available, so the hotel was pushed back. Since then, all other Disneyland Resort hotel reservations have been cancelled for 2020.
Now it appears that only Disney Vacation Club properties, which make up a small portion of the hotel, will reopen. Beginning November 19, guests can visit parts of Disney California Adventure for shopping and dining. The Downtown Disney shopping district also opened back in July.

We expect that the announcement of Disney’s Grand Californian will be the first of many for Disneyland’s reopening. Though the parks may not open into 2021, it’s possible that the hotels could open before. The Disneyland Hotel, however, scheduled a refurbishment before opening again.
