Disney California Adventure’s Buena Vista Street has recently seen a big drop in guest attendance since its November reopening.
Buena Vista Street debuted in November 2020 as part of a holiday rollout and a welcome return for theme park guests to Disney California Adventure. The first weekend saw lines of physically distanced guests all waiting to experience park magic once again. However, it now appears that demand has greatly slowed.
To prevent crowding, the Downtown Disney shopping district only allows so many guests in stores and spaces at a time. This includes Buena Vista Street. Guests can explore parts of Disney California Adventure to shop and dine but only in limited capacity.
Managing guests typically requires virtual queues that can be accessed with mobile devices. On opening day, guests waited up to three hours to step back inside the gates of Disney California Adventure. However, after the first few days, attendance drastically dropped. Many days and nights, Buena Vista Street doesn’t require a virtual queue at all to step inside.

For now, we believe that Californians are staying away from crowded destinations. With COVID-19 cases at an all-time high, people just aren’t risking it. For that we’re thankful because once the numbers decrease, then the parks can reopen once again.
It’s important to note that though Buena Vista Street rarely has lines, that could change. As the holidays draw near, guests may begin pouring back into places like Downtown Disney to see the decorations. Conversely, reservations at the outdoor Carthay Circle Lounge quickly booked up for most of December.
