The Walt Disney Company announced today that it will donate $5 million to support nonprofit organizations that advance social justice.
The NAACP is the first recipient, receiving a $2 million donation from Disney. In addition, the Walt Disney Company will match Cast Member donations through the Disney Employee Matching Gifts program.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek stated, “the killing of George Floyd has forced our nation to once again confront the long history of injustice that black people in America have suffered, and it is critical that we stand together, speak out and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated.” He went on to say that the donations they intend are for ensuring equality and justice.

Across all of its platforms from Marvel to Star Wars, Disney has posted support for social change. The company also pledges to promote more Black stories in its media.
We stand with Disney’s decision to support Black Lives Matter movement and create social change. Personally, we are furious at the mistreatment of Black Americans and know the importance of standing up against intolerance and brutality. After all, Disney is about magic, feeling special, and creativity. None of those can truly exist without a fair and just system that represents all of us.
