UPDATE: Due to demand, the World of Disney is requiring reservations with return times. Doing so allows for guests to shop with social distancing. However, we expect that over time Disney will allow more guests into the store and demand will decrease.

Disney Springs reopens on May 20th with required temperature checks for visitors and Cast Members to the shopping district.

Guests with a temperature of 100.4 F (38 C) or high could be re-screened and not allowed into Disney Springs. Their traveling party will also be denied entry.

Many guests wonder if the temperature checks are an accurate way to screen visitors. For example, COVID-19 is often spread by those not showing any symptoms at all. Furthermore, the Central Florida is often so hot that just walking can raise someone’s temperature.

So far, Universal Orlando’s CityWalk district has implemented the temperature screening checks. At this point, we’re guessing that the screening is just “security theater”—meaning that it makes guests feel safer without actually preventing anything.

Other guidelines in Disney Springs include limited parking, required face coverings for guests 3 and older, one-directional signs for social distancing, and added hand-washing stations. Additionally, fewer guests are allowed within Disney Springs and its shops at a time.

While select businesses reopen on May 20th, the Disney owned ones are waiting until May 27th. The list for these available shops continues to grow and will likely roll out in phases.

At this time, Disney Springs is the only part of Walt Disney World with a scheduled opening date. To get updates on Walt Disney World’s reopening, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter! You can also follow us on Instagram and Twitter.
