Walt Disney Imagineering shared a TRON Lightcycle Run roller coaster update from the Magic Kingdom this week!
New images of the construction site at Magic Kingdom reveal canopies being installed. The installation will be one of nearly 40 pieces that make up the futuristic “grid.” Disney Imagineering stated, “as one of the nearly 40 pieces that will create a dramatic “curved wave” canopy known as the Upload Conduit… the canopy will flow organically over guests as they race underneath on their Lightcycles.”
We like the sound of the “Upload Conduit” which makes sense because the track goes indoor and outdoor. Once your track flying back into the show building, you’ve entered the digital TRON space for the rest of the ride. We also love how this will end up looking in Tomorrowland!
We first experience TRON Lightcyle Power Run at the Shanghai Disneyland Resort. The attraction is high speed, tons of fun, and incredibly inventive. The special effects in the queue will also blow guest’s minds!

TRON Lightcycle Run will likely make its way into the Magic Kingdom in 2021. While there have been some construction delays and cost cutting, projects that have already begun received priority. Luckily, the TRON coaster is set to debut in 2021, just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. While the COVID-19 pandemic is still making the future look uncertain, we’re happy to see that something bright could be in the not-too-distant future.
