Disney Parks begin reopening process with the use of virtual queues. Shanghai Disneyland will reopen first on May 11, 2020.

Shanghai’s park is set to open next week with social distancing measures in tact. These include necessary masks, lowered capacity, and temperature checks. Disney is expected to use Chinese theme park’s reopening as a guide for Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

Additionally, Shanghai Disneyland plans to release limited number of tickets only available for pre-purchase. Many of the rides and other attractions will also have very limited capacity. Parades and theatre shows will remain closed to prevent crowding.

Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pamela Hymel, posted that other parks will begin a phased reopening process. The start will include retail and dining locations likely in Downtown Disney and Disney Springs first.

Once Walt Disney World and Disneyland reopen, Disney will focus on social distance measuring based on CDC guidelines. Disney plans to increase cleaning and disinfection with careful consideration of the products they use. We also anticipate that the parks will require face masks for cast members.

Furthermore, virtual queues using mobile applications are in consideration to keep crowding at a minimum. We also anticipate other theme park resorts like Universal Orlando to take similar measures.

Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts have no set a reopening date, but we anticipate that news soon. To get updates on Walt Disney World and Disneyland reopening, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter! You can also follow us on Instagram and Twitter.

    1. Hello! Disney is currently taking reservations for most hotels and campsites beginning July 1, 2020. Keep in mind that Disney has pushed back hotel dates several times. So if you’re planning a trip, make sure you’re okay with dates changing or being cancelled.
