A recent change to the Disneyland mobile app may reveal that Disney will add more virtual queues. The change first arrived on Android devices during an app update.

When clicking the menu at the bottom corner of the app, “Virtual Queues” displays on the new menu. When we clicked “Virtual Queues” we saw “Join Boarding Group” but without much information.

Boarding Groups were first added to deal with crowding in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. They were then re-added to give guests the chance to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

With COVID-19 spreading and the likelihood that we’ll face its issues for months to come, this may be Disney’s next step to spreading out crowds. Keeping guests spread apart and comfortable is also incredibly necessary. We can see theme parks using virtual queues to limit the number of people in each ride vehicle.

Of course, Disney could be testing the idea for other reasons. But after the craze of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, boarding groups could be a thing of the future.
