When will magical experiences like character dining return to the Walt Disney World theme parks and resort hotels?
Though so much of the Walt Disney World Resort is back to pre-pandemic levels, something is certainly missing. Guests haven’t been able to hug a Disney character in quite some time. Though the moment seems small, it’s a magical memory that many expect during their trip.
One of the best ways to meet Disney characters is during special character dining meals. These are often breakfast experiences at the parks and resort hotels. However, character dining hasn’t fully returned since the parks reopened a year ago. So when will character dining be back?
The good news is, Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom has recently reopened for character breakfast on June 20. Guests can dine and meet their favorite Disney characters like Donald Duck in his explorer costume. In addition, Chef Mickey’s has also reopened at the Contemporary Resort with Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of the “Fab Five.”

Furthermore, it’s important to note that character dining is “modified” at this time. For the most part, this means that characters will walk around and greet guests without getting too close. In the past, guests could hug and fully interact with their favorite characters. There’s no word from Disney when this type of experience will return, but we don’t expect it to be too long.
It’s also important to note that some dining spots like Cape May Cafe have reopened but without characters. Guests can also make a reservation at Topolino’s Terrace for breakfast at the Riviera Resort to meet Mickey and friends.
