Universal Orlando has confirmed that A Day at the Park with Barney has permanently closed at Universal Studios Florida.
The Universal Orlando Resort just got a little less colorful. Barney the Purple Dinosaur has seemingly gone extinct from the theme parks. This week, Universal Orlando confirmed that the A Day at the Park with Barney show will not reopen.
Since closing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, A Day at the Park with Barney was always an iffy return. Tucked back in the dated KidZone at Universal Studios Florida, the daytime show was designed to entertain the park’s smallest guests. Seeing that Barney & Friends has not had a new episode in over 10 years, it may be time for Universal to find another franchise that kids relate to.
Barney and his friends debuted in 1995 at Universal Studios Florida. Taking over the former spot housing The Bates Motel, the kid-friendly show ran about 30 minutes. Barney reopened briefly last summer but was closed again on August 9th.

Universal Orlando has yet to confirm a replacement for this attraction. We hope to see the entire KidZone get a revamp as it now relies on older franchises like Woody Woodpecker and An American Tail for its main attractions. Though these have fond memories for us, it is a bit disheartening that a part of Universal Studios doesn’t hold much excitement.
