The Disney Springs shopping area in Walt Disney World begins a phased reopening on May 20, 2020. The district closed in March 2020.
After following guidelines by the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force set last in April, a partial reopening begins later this month. Disney writes, “following the guidance of government and health officials, a limited number of shopping and dining experiences that are owned by third-party operating participants will begin to open during this initial phase.”
Disney also makes a point to state that its Cast Members remain one of their biggest concerns during a reopen. Safety measures for the reopening will include “increased cleaning procedures, the use of appropriate face coverings by both cast members and guests, limited-contact guest services and additional safety training for cast members.”
The rest of Walt Disney World, including theme parks and hotels, remain closed for the time being.

At this point, Disney hasn’t listed restaurants or shops in the phased reopening. Likely, Disney will leave the decision to the owners of the stores within Disney Springs. Furthermore, guests will need to abide by regulations including capacity restrictions to prevent crowding.
The news comes just days after Disney announced the reopening of its Shanghai theme park set for May 11, 2020. The U.S. theme parks are expected to follow the lead sometime this year as testing begins in Shanghai. To get updates on Walt Disney World’s reopening, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter!
