6 Things Disney World Should Fix After Reopening

We visited Walt Disney World and found some things that the Resort should fix after its reopening. While Disney does a great overall job, there’s still room for improvement.

Improve the Mask Policy in Disney Springs

Our recent trip to Disney Springs was alarming. After spending all day in the parks and hotels, we noticed that Disney Springs doesn’t seem to live up to the same standards. Heaps of guests flooded the walkways, often not maintaining social distancing. Everywhere we looked, an adult was wearing their mask incorrectly—or not at all. While we’d estimate that 9 in 10 people did wear their masks correctly, it’s still not enough. Though indoor spaces limit the number of guests, walkways and queues often become crowded. Like in the parks, Disney should have Cast Members roaming Disney Springs, enforcing the mask policy.

Offer More Hotel Dining

Most of the hotels only have a couple of restaurants open with limited menus. Since the parks don’t keep open late, if you’re staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, you’re likely eating at the same spot over and over again. Though Disney Springs is usually a great evening spot for dining, the lack of mask enforcement there removes it as a suitable alternative. If the hotels had even another cart added or some extra food items on the existing menus, it would greatly help.

Indoor Restaurants Should Wait

We don’t think indoor dining is a great idea right now. Places like Be Our Guest are open for indoor dining without masks. Even if the tables are spread apart, it just feels too soon for this type of thing. Perhaps these indoor dining experiences should have waited a couple more months.

Bring Back Minnie Vans

It appears that Walt Disney World has concluded its Minnie Van rideshare partnership with Lyft. Though we understand that the number of guests is low and these may not have high demand, that could easily change. Since Minnie Vans were operated by Cast Members, they seem like a much safer option than some random dude or lady picking you up in their car. Guests are left with sparse Resort transportation that doesn’t travel between all spaces. We would have felt much better about using a Disney-sponsored car when their resort transport wasn’t available.

Allow Park Hopping to EPCOT

For now, guests can only visit one park per day using the Disney Parks Pass. However, given the limited food options, we believe that EPCOT should be available later in the day. EPCOT is the second-largest theme park on the resort and has plenty of space for social distancing. Additionally, EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival makes it the perfect spot to dine after a day at the parks. Finally, the theme park is open later than the others. So it only makes sense that guests could perhaps reserve a visit to EPCOT later in the day, if there are still spots available. We’re sure that Disney has its reasons for limiting the parks, but if they could make EPCOT work, it would be a fantastic option.

Contactless Payment Only

Though mobile ordering is available for many dining spots, snack carts don’t have this option. So if you’re just grabbing a quick drink or ice cream bar, you might use your Magic Band. In this event, you’ll need to punch in your code on a gnarly looking keypad. After the first go at this, we switched over to credit card. Really, Disney needs to get rid of the pin pad feature somehow because it doesn’t align with the cleanliness found around the Resort.
