Enhance your next visit to Disney theme parks with these little-known Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge facts! We dive deep for backstories and hidden details only found on Batuu.
A Family Tradition
Kylo Ren infamously stomps the grounds of Galaxy’s Edge while looking for the Resistance. However, many don’t know that his grandparents, Anakin and Padme visited the area in their time. Vader makes his way onto the planet in the Star Wars novel, Thrawn: Alliances.
Oga’s Beaus
A terrifying Blutopian runs Oga’s Cantina. Oga Garra is squid-faced, mean, and doesn’t take any sass. However, that doesn’t stop her from dating. Despite her appearance, Oga dated both humans and Wookiees. Rumor has it, none of her beaus survived the breakups!
Little Monster
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is owned by an Ithorian of the same name. This store sells everything from lightsaber parts to rare Jedi holocrons. One of Dok-Ondar’s most interesting items on display is a baby sarlacc. In the films, a monstrous adult sarlacc ate the notorious Mandalorian bounty hunter, Boba Fett. But Dok-Ondar’s tiny sarlacc is much cuter and has pretty cool roots. Years before meeting Luke Skywalker, Han Solo was hired by Dok-Ondar to smuggle five infant sarlaccs from across the galaxy. However, Han nearly lost his life and was only able to retrieve the one.
Meet the Chef
Though Black Spire Outpost is ancient, its main restaurant, Docking Bay 7, is fairly new. The dining spot’s head chef, Strono “Cookie” Tuggs previously cooked in Maz Kanata’s castle. Once that blew up, Cookie eventually made his way to Batuu and set up shop.
Cookie Is an Author
Strono “Cookie” Tuggs is the narrator of the book, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. We love this book as its filled with delicious Galaxy’s Edge recipes that you can make at home. Furthermore, if you love Star Wars facts, Cookie gives plenty of origin stories behind the dishes he serves. Buy it here on Amazon!
Golden Lichen
Chefs also love Black Spire Outpost because it’s home to a special fungus. The golden lichen is used for cooking, garnishing, and dyeing food. You can see this lichen growing around Black Spire Outpost, especially near places with water such as drinking fountains.
Local Lifeforms
Speaking of drinking fountains, you may have seen a creature’s eye above the ones in Merchant Row. The aquatic alien is a dianoga named Tiny!
Secret Menu Item
Oga’s Cantina in Walt Disney World serves a secret menu charcuterie board. While the snack is large enough to share with 2-4 people, not everyone may like it. The spicy meats, pungent cheeses, and sweet sauces make an interesting combination. Disneyland’s cantina menu lists a smaller version of this snack called the Happabore Sampler.
That Tingling Sensation
Oga’s delicious Fuzzy Tauntaun drink is a blend of peach vodka, peach schnapps, and orange juice. However, the drink is also notorious for its lip-numbing foam! The foam is derived from the real-life herb, acmella oleracea, whose buds are called “buzz buttons.”
Mission Controlled
The Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride’s original design had several different missions. However, testing revealed that these missions became too difficult for the average guest. Thus, the “fuel cell” task was the only one launched.
Millennium Modes
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run was built with eight high-end NVIDIA Quadro P6000 GPUs. In other words, it runs on a super-powered gaming computer. Also, like many other computers, this one can be hacked. The Imagineers designed several exciting ways to experience the thrill ride, including “Chewie mode” where the Wookiee screams nonstop at guests throughout the ride. If you’ve heard of the Chewy hack, you may not know that Disney plans to unlock other modes in the near future!
Crash Site
Guests moving from Toy Story Land to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is Disney’s Hollywood Studios may notice a giant crater in the ground. Many Disney parks fans believed it’s the crash site of DJ R-3X, the resident disc jockey in Oga’s Cantina. However, Star Wars fans recognize that the crater belongs to a terrifying probe droid (which often make big impacts when landing on planets). The black droid can be found in a net near the Milk Stand.
Harry Potter Roots
Disney doesn’t reference Universal’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter as its catalyst for building a Star Wars-themed land. Instead, Imagineers reference Cars Land as the precursor. However, Disney can’t hide that they hired former Universal Creative leader, Scott Trowbridge, to design Galaxy’s Edge. Trowbridge designed Universal’s The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, Revenge of the Mummy, and the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey dark ride. Though Disney won’t admit it, the groundbreaking Harry Potter attractions certainly played an important role in the creation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Jat Kaa’s Coolers
The Coca-Cola kiosks in Galaxy’s Edge are known as Jat Kaa’s Coolers. Jat Kaa is a Lurmen, a lemur-like being from the planet Mygeeto. The small-statured Lurmen imports Coca-Cola, Sprite, and other beverage throughout the galaxy. On Batuu, astromech droids wheel his products for visitors to purchase.
