The recently closed Primeval Whirl rollercoaster has reopened for Holiday 2020. Disney scheduled the coaster to run through January 5, 2020. It’s clear that this ride is in seasonal operation. But when will Primeval Whirl open again at Disney’s Animal Kingdom?
Seasonal operation means that an attraction will only remain open when the parks are the busiest. Doing this spreads out crowds and shortens wait times. With that said, we don’t expect to see Primeval Whirl open until Spring 2020. Disney World becomes infamously busy around the Easter holiday when schools are out. Keep in mind, spring breaks may run from March through April.
After several pushed back reopening dates, Disney has chosen to close the attraction for most of the year. Disney has chosen to close Primeval Whirl likely due to concerns with the coasters operations. The company has deemed the ride safe for fans, but it’s challenging to operate for employees.
Since opening in 2002, the twin coasters of Primeval Whirl have received mixed reviews. The coaster is a take on the classic Crazy Mouse traveling fair ride—which we love. Still, many argue that Disney lazily added this attraction as a cheap, off-the-shelf option.
The Chester and Hester’s section of DinoLand is intended to be a cheesy roadside attraction, and Primeval Whirl fits within the theme. However, we agree that the brightly colored Chester and Hester area feels underwhelming. Disney is likely looking for a replacement to the closed Primeval Whirl in the near future.
