We dive into when the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks to return to 100% capacity, and more attractions and experiences become available.
When the Walt Disney World Resort reopened in July of last year, the parks did not operate at their full capacity. As many dates booked up—especially at Disney’s Hollywood Studios—guests wanted more opportunities to visit their desired parks. So when will Disney World expand its theme park capacity to 100%?
Today, Disney operates at 35% capacity. However, that number may soon change. CDC guidelines currently recommend that guests should stay 6 feet apart at all times. Disney claims that 35% capacity allows for this. However, new studies show that only 3 feet is needed as long as everyone wears a mask. If the CDC updates the guidelines to three feet for public event spaces, then Disney will likely follow.
Overall, we don’t expect Walt Disney World to host at 100% capacity until 2022, possibly 2023. The first sign will be the mask mandate going away from the resort. Once this happens, then we can see Disney stop taking recommendations. However, it’s important to note that Disney can currently host 100% capacity if they so choose. The state of Florida does not ban them from this. Nonetheless, Disney chooses to go with CDC Guidelines over state guidelines.

With all of that said, we don’t want to sound too excited about huge crowds. After all, some of the worst days at Walt Disney World are when the parks are overcrowded. Nonetheless, many feel that typical crowd flooding the parks once again means that some sense of normal has returned. To get updates on Walt Disney World, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter!
