The Disneyland Resort has cancelled all of its annual passes so what could the future APs look like?
If you’re a Disneyland Resort annual passholder, we have grave news for you. Disneyland cancelled all APs. This move comes as a big shock for anyone wishing to return to the parks this year. With big attractions like Avengers Campus awaiting guests, many wonder why Disneyland made this move.
Ultimately, the decision came from the on-going closure. According to the theme park resort, the current annual passport program is gone for good. However, they did allude to more programs offered in the future. Since Disneyland will likely reopen with limited capacity, the need to keep crowds low is a necessity. Since the park reportedly had one million APs before the closure last March, appeasing everyone may have proved too difficult with lower capacity.
Since Disneyland relies on locals, we expect the resort to offer a new version of these passes again. With the arrival of Disney Flex Pass in 2019, which required pre-booked reservation to visit on many days, we expect this to be the same for future APs. Locals, after all, often visit the parks on whim and can pack popular rides and walkways beginning in the late afternoon. Therefore, all annual passes may require some type of reservation on weekends and other busy dates.
Furthermore, Disneyland may choose to block out lower-cost annual passes from reserving during peak times. For example, the lowest tier may be blocked out in the summer, around Christmas, and again during spring break. Whereas a higher tiers may not have any blockout dates but could still require a reservation to visit during those peak times.
As far as discounts and pre-paid parking, we’re not entirely sure how Disneyland will handle these additions. Although we do expect discounts because those encourage APs to spend money at the resort. Whatever the update, we expect that Disneyland will reveal new APs around the times that the parks are set to reopen, or shortly after.
