This week, Universal theme park closures were extended for another few weeks. The Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood will not reopen until April 19, 2020.
Universal originally followed Disney’s lead and closed its theme parks through the end of March. However, after recommendations by the CDC, the date pushed back to mid-April.
Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Universal’s Volcano Bay, and Universal Studios Hollywood are all affected by this change. Most of the locations in Universal CityWalk and the Orlando Resort Hotels remain closes as well. We expect that the hotels and CityWalk destinations to reopen before the theme parks.
However, both theme park locations are reportedly still working on their upcoming attractions. Construction sites in California and Florida show unannounced projects in full swing. Hollywood’s version is likely Super Nintendo World and Islands of Adventure will receive a Jurassic Park-themed roller coaster.
Universal Studios Hollywood has also postponed its Peacock Live! event that would highlight upcoming television, film, and theme park attractions. There’s still no word about a new date for the event.
