The theme park and Uber have implemented a $4 fee to rides from the theme park.
If you’re planning a trip to Universal and using Uber, you may be hit with a fee. According to the Uber app, a $4 surcharge has been added to rides from the rideshare drop-off location at Universal Orlando.
Ridesharing apps like Uber and Lyft have become increasingly popular in Orlando over recent years. As guests need to hop from one park to the next, this transportation service is often the quickest option. Plus, when held against notoriously bad experiences riding taxis, Uber and Lyft really come out on top.
However, things are changing now that Uber and Lyft are used abundantly throughout Orlando. Universal is charging the serves a $4 fee for each Uber ride leaving its theme parks. Supposedly, this fee is to pay for upcoming changes to the resort’s rideshare drop-off spots, which are notoriously terrible these days (you are dropped off on the rooftop of the CityWalk parking garage and must manager your way toward the theme parks on your own).
Magic Tip: To avoid this fee, we recommend using Lyft as they aren’t currently hit with the same charges as Uber—for now.
Fees like this aren’t unheard of. Many airports and other popular destinations add these fees to pay for their ridesharing maintenance. In recent years, these funds have greatly improved guest experience at airports. Hopefully, Universal will up its game pretty quickly and improve the ridesharing area for its resort. At the time, we hope that the fee will be removed. As of now, the $4 surcharge only affects Uber rides picking up from the CityWalk transport area and not drop-offs or resort hotels.
