The Revenge of the Mummy is closing for an extended refurbishment shortly after the 2021 holiday season.
One of Universal Orlando’s most popular attractions is closing for (possibly) most of the year. The Revenge of the Mummy will shut its lofty doors for an extended refurbishment. The ride is expected to close on January 7, 2022 and reopen in late summer.
Extended refurbishments for roller coasters like this are typical. Revenge of the Mummy opened in 2004 and likely needs an entire track replacement. Also, Universal may want to change, fix, or add new effects to the ride. The Incredible Hulk roller coaster in Islands of Adventure underwent a refurb like this a few years ago.
Additionally, it’s rumored that actor Brendan Fraser will be removed from the ride. Though the Mummy coaster is based on his film franchise, it could be that Universal wants to move away from that late 90s image. However, this is just a rumor and hasn’t been confirmed.
