The Pirates League is closing at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. We have the date and what this might mean for future attractions.
Arguably, the Pirates League in the Magic Kingdom is a Jack Sparrow version of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Kids and adults can be transformed into a scoundrel of the seven seas or a glammy treasure raider.
However, unlike the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, guests can easily get day-of reservations for this add-on experience. Perhaps the lack of interest is why the the Pirates League is closing on July 27, 2020.
When the experience first launched in Adventureland, we saw little pirates running all over the park. There were 5-year-olds with beards, headbands, and eye patches. Some even had full-face skull makeup! We love the look and are sad that the Pirates League is coming to an end.
Disney is working on a relaunch of its Pirates of the Caribbean film series. This time, we don’t expect to see Johnny Depp, but Jack Sparrow could be much younger, or an entirely new crew might take over. It’s still uncertain what we’ll see, but until then we don’t expect too many more pirate-themed attractions. Kids are much more excited about Marvel and Star Wars these days. Instead of dropping $100 or more on a makeover, families are opting to build lightsabers and remote control droids.
Nonetheless, we still anticipate that Disney has found a suitable replacement for Pirates League. After all, the resort likes to update attractions with better appeal, so the closure will likely lead to this.
In the mean time, kids under 14 can still come to the park dressed as pirates! Just pick out you own makeup, clothing, and always follow Disney’s costume guidelines.
