The Festival of the Lion King show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is planning a roaring return beginning summer 2021!
Since Walt Disney World theme parks reopened last summer, live entertainment has been slow to return. Thus visiting guests were left with much fewer attractions to enjoy at the parks. For destinations like Animal Kingdom, this meant that popular shows like the Festival of the Lion King were no longer available.
Of course, it made a lot of sense that live entertainment would need to take a break. Since Disney enforces strict physical distancing rules, guests could not easily crowd together in the same space. However, Disney will modify the show for health and safety practices.
Update (May 8, 2021): The Festival of the Lion King will officially reopen on May 15. However, guests may be able to enjoy soft opening on days leading up to the reopening. The abridged attraction is now called ‘A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King.’
Disney states that the show is planning a return in the summer of 2021. Updates include how the audience sits, and how the show is performed, including choreography. We expect to see face masks worn by the performers, which, knowing Disney, will likely be designed to be part of the costume.
