After suffering from an incident without injury, the gondolas have returned.
The Disney Skyliner was only open a week before suffering from a major setback. As we previously reported, one of the gondolas seemingly came off track on the first Saturday of October 2019. It appears now that this could have been due to a cast member error, but there’s still no official word on the cause. Luckily, no one was injured.
The highly anticipated ride system takes guests between select Walt Disney World Resort hotels and the theme parks. Currently, Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios have drop offs near their gates (Epcot’s is near the International Gateway). Like the other WDW transports, there is no charge to ride the Disney Skyliner.
The gondolas are now riding from 8AM – 10:30PM daily. However, a scheduled maintenance will have them open at 1PM on October 16th, 2019 from the Hollywood Studios line. October 17-18, all lines will open later at 1PM.
Though the gondolas had an unfortunate early set back, we’re not worried. These types of gondolas have been placed around the world in both hot and cold weather without issue. We also anticipate that Disney and the manufacturer will be on site closely monitoring this experience for guest safety.
Disney also explained that its normal for gondolas to stop and go frequently. This is in order to accommodate guests with disabilities and other needs as they board.
