A review of the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire virtual reality experience at The VOID in Downtown Disney, Disneyland and Disney Springs, Walt Disney World.
If you haven’t heard by now, there’s a Star Wars-themed virtual reality experience that is out of this world! The virtual reality company, The VOID, teams with Lucas Films to create a thrilling new adventure. Best of all, you can experience this attraction at both the Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort.
The VOID boasts about it’s “hyper-realistic” VR—and we were originally skeptical. It sounded like a great tagline to get visitors to buy tickets, but how real is it?
The answer: very, very real.
Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire has guests walking through tight corridors, inside an enemy base, and even over lava pits! There are thrilling moments, terrifying experiences, and even iconic interactions (we won’t spoil the “iconic” parts for you). No matter what you’re doing, you feel totally immersed in the action.
Set in the time of Rogue One, you become a rebel, battle Storm Troopers, and even feel when one of them blasts you with a laser. Luckily, it doesn’t hurt, but your reaction is real. Our group was screaming, ducking, and shooting for our lives!
It’s mind blowing to pop on a VR headset and begin walking through an entire world. It’s like being inside of a video game as you watch the story unfold around you. No matter when you turn, action sequences seem to appear.
Check Out the Preview for Secrets of the Empire:
The VOID is located outside of the parks, in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort and at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World. However, many more cities host the attraction:
Anaheim, CA (Disneyland Resort)
Santa Anita, CA
Glendale, CA
San Francisco, CA
Santa Monica, CA
Orlando, FL (Walt Disney World Resort)
Atlanta, GA
Minneapolis, MN
Las Vegas, NV
Plano, TX
Washington, DC
Canada: Edmonton, Mississauga, and Toronto
We highly recommend Secrets of the Empire for any Star Wars fan. It’s one of the most exciting ways to become part of the Star Wars universe. Keep in mind that VOID usually alternates between different experiences, depending on the day. For example, the Marvel-themed Avengers: Damage Control rotates at the Disney theme parks. Thus, Star Wars experiences may not be available during your visit.
Tickets are about $35 a person and guest must be a minimum of 48″ (1.20 m) and 10 years of age or older. The attraction lasts an impressive 30 minutes and tickets must should be in advanced. However, spots are usually available same day.
