Star Wars Nite at Disneyland sold out of its August 27, 2020 date in just minutes.
Eager fans quickly purchased all of the $109 tickets for Star Wars Nite on August 27, 2020. Despite that the leading Star Wars-themed attraction, Rise of the Resistance, would not be available for the event.
We’ve seen Disneyland After Dark tickets go on sale and take months to finally sell out. It’s understandable as most special events are on weekdays and run until 1AM. Even the most popular events, like 90s Nite in 2019, take weeks to sell out.
However, 2020’s Star Wars Nite tickets all sold in just minutes! First, the Annual Passholder pre-sale sold out in the early afternoon on February 19. That led to a general public sale at midnight on February 20, which sold out before 12:15AM. Disney posted a message on its ticketing website with “Sold Out” in gray lettering.
And then, something interesting happened: more tickets became available. However, this time they were coupled with the message warning of limited quantities. We’re not sure whether Disneyland added more tickets to the date or if they simply released a reserved block. For many events, Disney holds tickets for its hotel guests, so this may have been those. All tickets sold out by early morning.
Disneyland After Dark
The event isn’t the first Star Wars Nite for the Disneyland Resort. The May the 4th celebration in 2018 (Star Wars Day) was so popular that Disney added a second date for the following week.
In 2020, Star Wars Nite is coupled with the Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim. The convention alerted its fans via e-mail in early morning of February 20, 2020 about Star Wars Nite tickets. We believe that this and word of mouth on social media helped sell out the event.
