The Shrek 4-D simulator show is closing forever at Universal Studios Florida in the Universal Orlando Resort.
One of Universal Studios Florida’s long-running shows is closing for good. Shrek 4-D, located in the park’s Production Central area, is officially closing after the holiday season. Universal listed the official Shrek 4-D closing date as January 10, 2022.
Since opening in summer of 2003, guests have enjoyed this immersive show with the original voice cast from the animated film. However, in recent years, Shrek’s attraction has lost its demand. While the character undoubtedly remain popular, most of these Universal simulator shows only last a handful of years. Shrek stayed on for an impressive 18-year run.

Shrek 4-D still runs in Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Singapore. The Hollywood version closed in 2017 for a new Dreamworks Theatre attraction starring characters from Kung Fu Panda. So far, Universal has yet to say what will replace Shrek-4D. However, we expect that the theater will launch a new show shortly. Perhaps they’ll theme it after another Illuminations property similar to Despicable Me. If you’d like more Universal Orlando updates, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter!
