When the Walt Disney World Resort reopens its theme parks new character experiences will help with social distancing and create fun.
Disney Parks have a big hurdle for when they reopen next month: character greets. One of the biggest reasons that families travel to the Magic Kingdom is to snap photos with iconic characters from Disney films. However, with social distancing the typical character experiences aren’t possible.
Instead, Disney is introducing new cavalcades and other character-based attractions to keep the magic alive—from a distance. Throughout the day at all four theme parks, guests can look for characters on moving floats, atop roofs, and “sailing the waterways.”
In addition to characters like Captain Jack Sparrow, Buzzlighter, Anna & Elsa in lands, new experiences will be featured in the different parks:
Magic Kingdom – Character cavalcades through the parade route, Main Street Philharmonic live music performers
EPCOT – Character motorcade, live performers the drumming the JAMMitors and Mariachi Cobre
Hollywood Studios – Character motorcade, Star Wars characters on rooftops and hiding out from The First Order
Animal Kingdom – Characters sailing along the waterways

For the time being, there is only one character dining event at Walt Disney World. Topolino’s Terrace in Disney’s Riviera Resort will host the dining event and the characters will remain at a distance. Hopefully in the coming months over dining experiences will be added.
New character experiences first debuted in Disney Springs this year. Guests can spot Stormtroopers and other fun characters on rooftops and in segmented areas. Before that, many of the character experiences within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge were already on rooftops and other distant spots.
Furthermore, most attractions will be back at all theme parks except for most live shows. To get updates on Walt Disney World’s reopening and tips for visiting, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter! You can also follow us on Instagram and Twitter.
