We have Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway tips – what time should you get to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and what to expect.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened to massive crowds on March 4, 2020. And the ride did not disappoint! With groundbreaking special effects, classic Disney characters, and a unique ride style, it’s a great experience for all ages.
However, this type of ride also brings huge crowds. Couple that with the high demand for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and we expect Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be incredibly busy for quite some time.
If you’re planning a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we highly recommend getting a FastPass+ selection for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Guests staying at a Disney hotel can get one 60-days in advance and other guests with a ticket, 30 days ahead. Be sure to book these as soon as they drop at 7am, sixty or thirty days before your visit.
What To Do Without a FastPass+ for Runaway Railway
If you missed the FastPass+ for this ride, you’ll have to wait in a traditional line. Because of this, we recommend planning an early day. Get to the park at least 60-90 minutes before opening to avoid the bulk of the line.
Why 90 minutes? Well, guests get there very early for these attractions to avoid the longer lines later. This will also give you enough time to get through security, line up, and scan in. Disney changes what time guests can enter the park, but it’s usually around 30-40 minutes before published park hours.
Walt Disney World transport varies from day to day, as do Hollywood Studios’ opening hours. However, the Disney Skyliner likely won’t run until 730am or so. Therefore, we recommend taking the bus, shuttle, or a private car to the resort. Walkways from the Epcot-area hotels (Boardwalk Inn, Swan/Dolphin, Beach/Yacht Club) are also open and accessible to walk to Hollywood Studios.
How to Get a Rise of the Resistance Boarding Pass and Ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
The good news is, you don’t have to choose between riding Runaway Railway and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. We rode Runaway Railway early in the morning AND secured a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance.
If you’re waiting in line before the boarding passes drop, make sure you have access to Disney’s free WiFi just in case. Sometimes reception drops while waiting in line. But the WiFi signal often works.
Finally, if you show up late and the line is very long, you can chance it and wait. We saw the lines between 200-300 minutes for most of the first day. However, in the late afternoon they dropped to around 110 minutes. Really, if you can wait under 2 hours for this ride, then you’ve done a great job.
We expect Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway to be busy for quite some time. While the ride appears to hold quite a few guests each hour, the demand for new attractions at Hollywood Studios has never been greater.
