Jurassic World – The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood to close for refurbishment on February 18, 2020.
Jurassic World – The Ride has only been open since July 2019, but it’s already scheduled for a refurbishment. Insiders speculate that the water ride will have one of its key animatronic dinosaurs fixed.
The Indominus Rex, the franchise’s original bad-guy dino, hasn’t properly worked since opening day on the ride. One of the battle scenes involving the animatronic seems lackluster without the dino moving. Instead, she stands still or only moves a little. Other times, she’s entirely covered by a scrim.
Universal hasn’t stated how long this closure will be. However, its speculated that the animatronic needed fixing at the start, which originally delayed the ride.
UPDATE (January 10, 2020): Jurassic World the Ride originally closed fro January 8-10, 2020. The ride will begin its second, much longer refurb on February 18, 2020. The new scheduled refurbishment could last up until April.
Tweaks to big-name rides are common in the theme park industry. Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure in Universal Orlando and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Walt Disney World have experienced technical issues since their opening days last year.
Hopefully Universal Hollywood will quickly fix the Indominus Rex so that we can see her in full action!
