Is Disneyland Closed on Christmas Day?

Will the Disneyland Resort be closed on Christmas Day? We explore what the holidays look like at the theme parks.

During any normal year, the entire Disneyland Resort, including the theme parks and hotels, remain open to guests. However, for the first time in decades, the Disneyland Resort will close on Christmas Day. Though the theme parks and hotels have been closed since the spring, guests will not be allowed to visit on December 25, 2020.

With a widespread pandemic, the Disneyland Resort closed its gates in March 2020 and didn’t open the theme parks for the rest of the year. Though the Downtown Disney District reopened in July 2020, it too would close again, just for the holiday. It’s also important to note that Disney California Adventure opened in part in November, but just for holiday shopping (it also closes on Christmas). Once the parks reopen, we expect them to resume operation, even on holidays like Christmas.

Now, if you’re considering a future trip to the Disneyland Resort on Christmas, there are some things to consider. Christmas is historically one of the most popular days to visit. Because of the lights, music, and overall joyful feeling, it’s no wonder guests would prefer to spend the holiday in the parks.

However, the days that follow Christmas are usually even busier. With families visiting from out of town, it’s common that the parks will reach capacity. Even if you manage to get inside, expect long waits for the attractions and sold out FastPass selections.
