The Disneyland Resort is rolling out the new Magic Key annual pass sales this week—here’s what you should know before buying.
Since announcing the return of its annual pass program earlier this month, Disneyland has changed some rules. Future guests have had seemingly countless about the new Magic Key program. Many wonder what options they’ll have before they purchase. Here’s what you should know:
Where to Buy a Magic Key
Guests will only be able to purchase a Magic Key on the Disneyland website or using the Disneyland mobile app. This policy changed just this week as Disneyland likely realized the massive lines that would form in the parks. In addition, Disneyland ticket windows are notoriously slow.
Purchasing Options
There are 4 different types of Magic Keys, each with their own benefits and blockout dates. Each person will need their own Magic Key to enter the parks. Residents of California will also be able to break their cost into monthly payments after a $179 down payment.
Reservations
All Disneyland Magic Keys require a theme park reservation. Guests will be able to book a reservation on Disneyland’s website or via the mobile app.
Upgrading a Ticket
To upgrade your Disneyland ticket to a Magic Key, it must not be completely used. For example, if you have one day left on a 3-day ticket that’s not past its expiration date (13 days after first use), you can upgrade within the Disneyland app. Just find your ticket in the menu and tap there to upgrade. You’ll be required to pay the difference and downgrades are not allowed. In addition, promotional tickets like free ones your receive from Cast Members, Oogie Boogie Bash tickets, and the California Resident offer are not upgradable.

Limited Quantities
Disneyland says that there is a limit to how many Magic Keys they will sell. However, they have also confirmed that there is no rush to buy one. The verbiage is likely in the policies just so Disneyland can opt to change which products they offer in the future. However, it doesn’t sound like they’ll sell out any time soon. But we do expect systems to be backed up on Wednesday and it could take hours to purchase online.
Anyone who purchases a Magic Key within the first 66 days will be sent a gift package! It will contain a Magic Key pin and other goodies as a thank you for returning. Magic Keys go on sale Wednesday, August 25, 2021, no earlier than 10am. To get Disneyland updates and tips sent straight to your inbox, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter!
