Hong Kong Disneyland is closing again after a recent reemergence of COVID-19 in the territory. The theme park reopened less than a month ago.
After closing in January due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and reopening with a fresh new castle on June 18, Hong Kong Disneyland is closing once again. When the theme park first opened, only 4 new cases had been recorded that day in Hong Kong. According to local media a sharp increase of new daily cases has forced the park to close. Over 50 new single-day cases were reported in Hong Kong today.
Hong Kong Disneyland is one of the smallest Disney theme parks in the world. After opening in 2005, low crowds and unique themed attractions like Mystic Manor (their version of the Haunted Mansion) makes this park incredible. Visiting guests were required to practice social distancing, make a park reservations, and wear a mask during their visit.

The closing of Hong Kong comes just days after Walt Disney World reopened in Florida, a state where the daily COVID-19 numbers have exceeded 250,000 cases this year. Florida also recently broke the single-day record for any state this past weekend with 15,300 new cases. Walt Disney World has implemented barriers, mandatory masks, and other social distancing measures for its theme parks. Disney has yet to confirm that Hong Kong Disneyland is closing.

However, Hong Kong’s overall numbers are something to consider, especially from a country that implemented social distancing measures and face masks early on.
